| Henry Moore embodies the
sculpture of our century. He has exercised a decisive influence on the stuyles of
whole generations of medern sculptors, giving the art of sculpture and entirely new
dimension and freeing it from the limitations of form and content hitherto imposed by
monumental sculpture. |
|
| Henry Moore's
international distinctions are so numerous that space does not permit them to be mentioned
in detail here. For example, he was an honorary doctor of such important
universities as Yale, Harvard, Cambridge and Oxford. No art historian could give an
account of the history of the art of this past century without mentioning the work of
Henry Moore. Born in Castleford, Yorkshire, in 1892, Mr. Moore worked in a studio
not far from London. |
|
| Henry Moore changes
dimensions with an intricately constructed porcelain abstract in bas-relief. The
32" round plaque, beautifully mounted on a black lacquered frame, represents the only
"flat" work this honored sculptor ever created. |
